05 Oct 2015

American Abroad Media (AAM) will honour twofour54 CEO, Noura Al Kaabi, at an awards dinner in Washington later this month, in recognition of her role in leading the UAE’s growing media industry.

This year marks AAM’s third annual “Power of Film” Awards Dinner at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. to honour outstanding leaders whose work exemplifies the power of media to inform, educate, and empower citizens about the critical social and public policy issues of our time.

Announcing the award recipients today, Aaron Lobel, founder and president of America Abroad Media, said, “We are truly delighted to be honouring Noura Al Kaabi, a dynamic and outstanding leader. Her enormous contribution to the success of the media sector in Abu Dhabi, as well as her personality and leadership style, is an inspiration to young people in the UAE and across the Middle East and is an honourable reflection of the values of her country.”

In addition to Noura Al Kaabi, Turkish journalist and broadcaster, Mithat Bereket, will also be honoured at the awards dinner, along with two highly-praised films: Argo, the American drama, directed by Ben Affleck, based on the U.S. hostage crisis in Tehran in 1980 and winner of the 2013 Academy Award for Best Picture; and Difret, Ethiopian docu-drama and winner of the 2014 World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Guests at the awards dinner will include several real-life houseguests depicted in the film, as well as Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor and former CIA officer Tony Mendez (played by Ben Affleck), both key figures of the rescue mission.

Previous honorees at America Abroad Media’s Awards Dinner include Kathryn Bigelow, director of The Hurt Locker and first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Director; and Aamir Khan, one of India’s most famous Bollywood stars.
