twofour54, Abu Dhabi Ports and Zayed University set up new initiative to promote Abu Dhabi and young Emirati talent

Abu Dhabi’s creative hub, twofour54, and Abu Dhabi Ports partners with Zayed University to launch the Proudly Abu Dhabi initiative, which will coincide with Abu Dhabi Art in November.

Young Emirati artists are being urged to create pieces inspired by their vision for the future of Abu Dhabi for a new competition – and could have their artwork showcased to hundreds of thousands of visitors if they win.

The aim of the competition is to give a glimpse of how the future will look in Abu Dhabi through the creative work of talented young Emiratis.

The competition is open to Emirati students who either attend Zayed University or are members of twofour54’s creative lab, which is a community that supports young people to create their own projects, volunteer on productions or shadow professionals that are working within the media sector.

There will be ten winners who will each share an equal amount of the AED 50,000 prize pool. In addition, their artwork will be displayed at the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal for the 2017/18 season where hundreds of thousands of visitors pass through each year.

Her Excellency Maryam Eid AlMheiri, CEO of the Media Zone Authority – Abu Dhabi and twofour54, said: “Through our work with young people at twofour54, such as the creative lab community and our summer programmes, we have seen the incredible creative talent that Abu Dhabi possesses.

“As a leader within the creative industries, we are committed to developing new generations of Emirati talent that can help shape the cultural and economic future of our emirate.

“Proudly Abu Dhabi is an excellent platform for young people to demonstrate their creative skills and to also share their pride in their home.”

Registration to participate in Proudly Abu Dhabi is now open and submission will be within a 3-day window starting the 3rd of December 2017 and ending at 1pm on 5th of December 2017.

The artwork will be judged by a panel made up of representatives of twofour54, Abu Dhabi Ports and Zayed University, as well as winners of the International Emerging Artist Award.

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO Abu Dhabi Ports said: “Abu Dhabi Ports is always keen to support initiatives such the “Proudly Abu Dhabi” competition which allows students to showcase their incredible talents. Last year, more than 345,000 cruise passengers from around the world visited Abu Dhabi and we expect that number to increase in the future. We look forward to awarding the winning entries, further supporting them to portrait their vision for the future of the emirate and their pride in their home.”

The winning entries are expected to be announced in December ahead of the opening of the exhibition to showcase the works at Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal.

His Excellency Prof. Reyadh Al Mehaideb, Vice President of Zayed University, said: “Proudly Abu Dhabi is an unmissable opportunity for Zayed University students to showcase their talent to worldwide art enthusiasts.

“The Zayed University College of Arts and Creative Enterprises, continuously assists graduates to reach their full potential and to contribute to the cultural fabric of the UAE.

He mentioned that the university is fully committed to providing students with high quality education that keeps pace with international best practices. “Today, the University offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs responding to some of the largest segments of the job market and a unique educational experience that develop students’ competencies and refine their skills and knowledge,” he said.
