19 Jul 2016

The first of its kind in the region, twofour54’s first summer camp welcomed more than 20 students to a programme that combines learning and entertainment through interactive sessions that will enrich their summer break and introduce them to the world of media.

twofour54’s new two-week, action-packed media summer camp kicked off this week, targeted at Arabic and English speaking students aged 9-12 years old. The first of its kind in the region, twofour54’s first summer camp welcomed more than 20 students to a programme that combines learning and entertainment through interactive sessions that will enrich their summer break and introduce them to the world of media.

Acting CEO of twofour54, Maryam Al Mheiri, commented: “We are thrilled to have launched twofour54’s new summer camp today. The programme does not only give kids the opportunity to learn and experience the media industry first-hand, it also brings together leading professionals from the twofour54 community who will help make our summer camp an unforgettable experience for the children. This is a great example of the value of the ecosystem we created at twofour54 which positively supports all of our business objectives including talent development.

“What makes twofour54’s summer camp unique is its comprehensive approach that exposes students to the full cycle of content creation; theoretical and practical. Participants will come out of this experience with a book they wrote, a film they made, or a product they created. Moreover, some courses will be conducted in Arabic which highlights our focus in promoting Arabic content development. The camp will be a fun educational setting that encourages the entrepreneurial spirit in young talent and I am confident that it will enhance their skills and kindle their interest in innovation and creativity,” she added.

The students will participate in various activities in media related subjects like filmmaking, writing, marketing, and entrepreneurship besides media-supporting topics such as the responsible and safe use of social media in addition to first aid. twofour54 partners, community members, and staff will be conducting the sessions which vary between lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on workshops. Among those leading the courses are partners M&C Saatchi, Flat6Labs, and taghreedat, as well as Maitha Al Khayat, who was a scriptwriter for Iftah Ya Simsim and an active member in twofour54’s previous writing workshops.
