As the CEO of Media Zone Authority – Abu Dhabi, Maryam is responsible for leading its strategic agenda to build a sustainable media industry that contributes to the economic and cultural development of Abu Dhabi, as well as position the Emirate as a regional focus for global media and entertainment.
The Authority’s initiatives include both twofour54 Abu Dhabi, the fastest growing media hub in the region, and Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC).
Maryam leads the twofour54 team to facilitate a vibrant ecosystem of local and global partners that enables and inspires the most creative and innovative content. Today, more than 470 media companies from around the world, including CNN, Cartoon Network, Apple, Red Bee Media part of Ericsson, Algorythma, and Ubisoft, call twofour54 home.
With a focus to enhance the Emirate’s appeal to production companies and filmmakers, Media Zone Authority – Abu Dhabi’s offer includes twofour54’s award-winning production services and ADFC’s generous financial incentive of a 30% rebate on production and post-production spend.
This has helped attract some of Hollywood’s biggest productions, such as ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’, ‘Bourne Legacy’, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, ‘Fast & Furious 7’, and ‘War Machine’, along with TV shows such as ‘Top Gear’ and ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’. Abu Dhabi also has close geographical and economic ties with India and several Indian productions having filmed in the Emirate, including ‘Race 3’, ‘Saaho’, ‘Baby’, ‘Bang, Bang’ and ’Tiger Zinda Hai’.
twofour54’s success over the past decade means it has now outgrown its current location and Maryam is leading the move to a state-of-the-art, built-for-purpose, 3.2 million square feet campus on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi in 2020.
Among her other roles within the media industry, Maryam is the Chairwoman of Bidaya Media, a leading edutainment company, and a board member of Abu Dhabi Media Company. In addition, Maryam is the Vice Chairwoman of Special Olympics UAE Board and a member of the Higher Committee for the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games, which is taking place in Abu Dhabi. Maryam is also a member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council’s Economic Development Committee, and the Abu Dhabi Investment Committee.
In 2017, Maryam was named in the Forbes 100 Most Powerful Arab Women list.
Maryam holds a TRIUM Global Executive MBA jointly issued by New York University Stern School of Business, London School of Economics and Political Science, and HEC Paris School of Management. She also holds a Masters in Strategy and National Security Studies, issued by the National Defense College in Abu Dhabi, and completed her undergraduate studies in Accounting & Business Administration with distinction and honours at the UAE’s Higher Colleges of Technology.Management
